For clients moving from Developmental Centers to the community, the availability of quality heath and dental care is important.  This will be made easier when a newly constructed community clinic opens its door on El Camino Avenue in North Sacramento in 2018.

HALO was awarded funding by Alta California Regional Center (ACRC) through a request for proposal (RFP) process that looked to solicit providers to develop effective services for individuals with developmental disabilities.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by legislators who have worked to provide affordable and accessible health care for all populations. Speakers at the event included the Honorable Congresswoman Doris Matsui, Sacramento City Councilman Allen Warren and speaking on behalf of Alta California Regional Center, our Chief Operating Officer, Peter Tiedemann.

Mr. Tiedemann was gracious to acknowledge John Decker, Manager of the Community Placement Plan and Forensics unit at ACRC, and his staff member Geneva Luedtke for their hard work in making this happen.  Also in attendance was Alfonso Carmona, Director of Adult and Residential services at ACRC.

The community clinic will provide 20 exam rooms and 10 dental exam rooms with state-of -the-art technology.  This includes the ability to meet the needs of individuals in wheelchairs who can receive dental treatment without having to transfer to a dental chair.

In addition, HALO is working with the Pacific Center for Special Care at the University of Pacific Dental School to receive training and technical assistance for dental, medical and behavior health professions on providing oral health care to people with developmental disabilities.

We look forward to having this very valuable and needed resource in our community to help meet the medical and dental needs of the clients served by Alta California Regional Center.
