HCBS Provider Assessments


Providers of some regional center HCBS services (Service Code List) are required to be assessed for their current level of compliance with the CMS Final Rule.

The first phase consisted of HCBS Self-Assessments, filled out by providers in regards to their own services. This phase was completed on 8/31/2020.

The next phase will be on-site assessments. DDS, in partnership with Public Consulting Group (PCG), will be performing individual site assessments with a representative sample of service providers. Due to COVID considerations, these may be conducted online. 

If a provider is not currently in compliance, there is time to develop a transition plan so the provider can achieve compliance by March 17, 2023, the date by which California must implement the federal requirements.​

Providers who may need to update services are encouraged to contact their CSS Specialist now to discuss their questions, plans, and potential need to update their program designs.
