Ye
Service Coordinator
Ye has worked as a Service
Coordinator at Alta California Regional Center for over a year.
As a bilingual Service Coordinator, she can communicate with
Mandarin speaking clients to help them better understand
services. She enjoys working at ACRC because of the supportive
team and overall positive working environment, along with helping
the families and clients on her caseload.
As a person of Chinese descent, Ye celebrates Chinese New Year. She participates in festivities by sharing a big meal with her family, playing games, and continuing traditions. One of the traditions Ye continues is hiding a coin in dumplings. Whoever finds the coin in their dumpling will be brought a year of good luck.
Chinese New Year is a time where Ye and other celebrators can visit friends and neighbors and bring gifts. Over a seven-day period, participants in the holiday bring food to those they visit and give them a “red pocket” or red envelope that contains cash for children. Red is an important color for Chinese New Year because it signifies fortune, vitality, and prosperity.
One of Ye’s favorite memories of the holiday is seeing fireworks with her family from the small village she comes from. In the United States, Ye still celebrates with her family through watching tv stations that showcase events and celebrities important to Chinese culture. Her favorite celebrity being Lay Zhang; he focuses on Chinese style dancing and singing and helped redefine Chinese Pop (C-Pop).
