California Children’s Services Shift to Medi-Cal Managed Care
The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) proposed redesign of California Children’s Services (CCS) would shift specialty care from CCS to Medi-Cal managed care beginning in 2017. CCS was “carved out” of Medi-Cal managed care in 1993, so care for CCS conditions is authorized and coordinated by local CCS case managers, and provided by CCS-approved, specialty care doctors, hospitals and clinics. CCS-eligible children receive care from a highly specialized regional network of providers that serves all children with special health care needs in California.
