Self-Determination Program Orientation

Department of Developmental Services (DDS) has partnered with State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) to provide a statewide orientation and training to all participants and families who are interested in participating in the Self-Determination Program (SDP). The Statewide Self-Determination Program Orientation is offered in two parts. Each part is two hours. You must complete both parts before beginning the SDP transition.

The orientation is conducted in English and Spanish on varying dates throughout the year. Other languages can be requested as needed.

What is the Self-Determination Program?

The Self-Determination Program (SDP) is an opportunity available to all regional center clients to determine how they want to implement services based on their needs. It gives clients:

the freedom to plan their life and make decisions,
flexibility on how money is spent for client services and supports,
the ability to choose the people and supports that help clients live, work and play,
responsibility and accountability,
and centers the client as the most important decision maker in their life.
