What are Behavioral Health Treatment services?
Behavioral Health Treatment services include many different
behavioral interventions and treatment services that prevent or
minimize the adverse effects of behaviors that interfere with
learning and social interaction, and promote, to the maximum
extent practicable, skill development to enhance the
functioning of the individual.
Who is eligible for Behavioral Health Treatment
services?
Medi-Cal members under 21 years of age. This includes
Individuals with Fee-For-Service (FFS) Medi-Cal and individuals
with a Medi-Cal Managed Care Plan. A doctor or
psychologist will determine if services are medically
necessary.
For Private Insurance members California Senate Bill 946
(SB946) went into effect on July 1, 2012. This bill requires
that private health insurers regulated by the State of
California pay for behavioral health treatment for those
diagnosed with PDD/NOS or autism.
How can I access Behavioral Health Treatment
services?
Individuals with Fee-For-Service Medi-Cal regardless of
regional center eligibility may access Behavioral Health
Treatment services directly from a Medi-Cal FFS BHT provider.
Your doctor should have information and can help you get
Behavioral Health Treatment services.
Individuals in a Medi-Cal Managed Care Plan have their
Behavioral Health Treatment services coordinated by their

Individuals with Private Insurance regardless of regional
center eligibility may access Behavioral Health Treatment
services directly from their insurance provider. Your doctor
should have information and can help you get Behavioral Health
Treatment services.
