Eden

Eden is a multifaceted high school student who enjoys participating in a wide range of hobbies and interests. She likes to keep busy and work with her hands to pass the time, besides studying for school or hanging out with her family.

As a Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Filipina person, Eden values her family. In her father’s household, Eden lives in a multigenerational Filipino family that includes her dad, sister, uncle, cousin, aunt, and her grandparents lovingly called Lola and Lolo. Eden’s Lola (grandmother) is her best friend and feels closest to her. One of her favorite parts of her family dynamic is all the delicious Filipino food they make. In her mother’s household, food is also an important staple to their culture, and Eden enjoys eating Mexican food like tamales.

For the past two years, Eden has participated in band. In her freshman year of high school, Eden had the opportunity to perform at Disneyland as a trumpeter with her bandmates. She was very proud of this because prior to her 8^th grade year of middle school, Eden was hesitant to join band as she didn’t want to be bullied for her choice. But she overcame this concern and with consistent practice, she was rewarded with an amazing opportunity! Now, as a sophomore in high school, Eden has every intention to continue playing in band and practicing a variety of musical instruments like the trumpet, the guitar, and the recorder.

With her musical interest, Eden enjoys listening to musicals and attending theater. Often, while she crafts at home, she will listen to her favorite musicals. It helps blend her many interests into one. Some of the crafts she enjoys making include bedazzling, crocheting, knitting, and making bracelets. As a fan of Star Wars, Eden even bedazzled a lightsaber!

Eve, Eden’s mother, expressed how important and impactful it is to have Alta California Regional Center services, and shared her appreciation for their designated Service Coordinator. With the inclusion of social recreation in Eden’s life, they have access to music lessons that otherwise would have been difficult to obtain. It has given Eden focus, entertainment, and pride as she continues to learn to hone her musical skills.
