AnnQuinettia

Artist

Post

AnnQuinettia has been an artist for most of her life. As a child, her family didn’t have much money, so her mother would use crafts and art to entertain her children and bond the family. AnnQuinettia learned how to crochet, sew, and make jewelry very early on. However, the craft that stuck with her most was ceramics.

Art has served as an outlet and a source of income for AnnQuinettia. Since February 2026, she has attended Work of Art Studios, a program where people of all abilities can showcase their artistic expression. At the studio, AnnQuinettia focuses on creating physical forms of art, like painting, jewelry, ceramics, and more. She enjoys combining multiple mediums into her artwork. A great example of this can be seen in her piece titled “Girl Power.”

Girl Power is a mixed media piece using felt, fabric, wool, and jewelry to create a portrait of a black woman intended to invoke the vibrant feminine form. AnnQuinettia made the piece to incorporate more ethnic and urban artwork into the studio. The piece also celebrates Juneteenth because it provides AnnQuinettia an opportunity to remember her ancestry and past, honoring those who paved the way for her to create art. She has plans to make more art aligned with ethnic, urban, and Juneteenth themes. The next piece she has in mind will experiment with chalk and watercolor.

Outside of Work of Art Studios, AnnQuinettia lives independently. At home, she enjoys playing video games and is a Mesh Instructor for the game Second Life, a platform where you can explore, create, and chat with others in a virtual reality. As a Mesh Instructor, AnnQuinettia teaches others how to digitally design and create clothing for Second Life. Players will come to her for her expertise and knowledge and even hire her to teach them.

As AnnQuinettia has grown in her role as an artist, she feels thankful for her Service Coordinator (SC) at Alta California Regional Center because of how communicative her SC has been. AnnQuinettia recognizes her SC is passionate about her job and this translates into the time, effort, and support AnnQuinettia receives.
