Recruiting People with Disabilities for a Research Interview

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab is recruiting people with disabilities for a research interview and participation in a survey on Home and Community Based Services (HCBS).

The purpose of this study is to help determine if HCBS helps people live the life they want. Shirley Ryan AbilityLab will ask you questions about your daily life and HCBS to test the new survey.

Who can participate in the study?

  • Current or former recipients of HCBS 
  • Live in the United States
  • Are 18+ years old
  • Speak and understand English
  • Have access to high-speed internet or telephone

HCBS are services that help people live in the community. These can be paid for by Medicaid through a waiver. Some examples of services received through HCBS are:

  • Personal care:
    • dressing 
    • bathing
    • toileting 
    • eating
  • Help with daily tasks:
    • cleaning
    • grocery shopping
    • meal prep and/or delivery 
    • running errands
  • Home health care and therapy:
    • Physical Therapy
    • Occupational Therapy 
    • Speech Therapy

What will people in the study do?

  • Interest survey (not paid)
  • 1 consent meeting that is an hour long
  • 2 surveys over 6 months that are an hour long
  • Interview can be done on Zoom, phone, or in-person
  • Optional: 1-3 extra surveys

Gift card provided for each completed interview or online survey. Accommodations are available.
