Did you know that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) are at greater risk of developing a mental health disorder than neurotypical individuals? In fact, some estimate that up to 70% of people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder also have a mental health condition. Anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder, Attention-Deficit-Disorder and more can impact individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities just as they can anyone else. In the past, some have thought that people with ID/DD could not benefit from traditional mental health therapies so they were not regularly offered or provided.

However, in more recent years, research has shown that individuals with ID/DD can benefit from mental health treatment and services. This guide provides an overview of the mental health treatment resources and services available in the greater Sacramento area and surrounding counties.
