The Individual Program Plan (IPP)
The Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Act requires that a person who receives services from a regional center have an Individual Program Plan (IPP). In 1992, the law was changed in many ways. One of those changes had to do with the way that people figure out what should go into an IPP. This new way is called PERSON-CENTERED PLANNING. Person-centered planning is about listening to consumers and their families about things like: where they want to live; how they want to spend their day; who they want to spend time with; and, their hopes and dreams for their future. It is about supporting people in the choices they make about their life and giving people all the information they need to make those choices. The service coordinator helps write the IPP, looks for services and supports when needed, and makes sure that the services that people get are the ones they need and want.
